Angola announces studies on PLANAGRÃO value chain

Luanda – Angolan government has announced plans to conduct, within five months period, a study on the value chain aimed to help businesspeople in the implementation of the National Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production "PLANAGRÃO".

The intention was announced Tuesday in Luanda by the secretary of State for the Economy, Ivan Marques dos Santos, at the usual briefing of the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP).

The official said that the referred study will make it easier for the implementation of the projects and guarantee that the entrepreneur finds suitable conditions, after obtaining financial resources.

He said that the team which is integrated by all members from the multi-sector commission also includes experts from the national market.

The goal is to ensure a consistent and inclusive study in the implementation and dissemination phase.

“The study will create the value chain connection. If we are cultivating in a particular area, it is necessary to know where the transformation industry can be implemented to guarantee the value chain, in a consistent way, and how to find out market failures within the project”, he stressed.

PLANAGÃO has a budget estimated at AKz 2.8 billion. This amount will also cover the implementation process until 2027.

Based on the schedule, he added, “we hope that from 2024 we will begin to implement the issue related to infrastructure, which is the most critical part for the accommodation of PLANAGRÃO”.

The project foresees roughly USD 670 million in its average annual investment for the production of wheat, rice, soybeans and corn, and others, and about US$471 million annually for construction and rehabilitation. infrastructure to support the productive and social sectors.

The nationwide funds for the project will be made available to the promoters that have large-scale production of grain.

For the implementation of the project, public and private funds will be mobilised, of which the State will invest in a period of five years the value of 1.178 billion kwanzas in infrastructures, which include the demarcation of two million hectares, allotment and roads of access to production areas.
