Ndalatando - One hundred and twenty families in the commune of Samba Lucala, municipality of Samba Cajú, Cuanza Norte, are learning techniques on soybean production in order to contribute to the cultivation of this cereal, with high nutritional values.
In addition to the to the capacity building, the peasant families benefit from technical assistance and agricultural inputs for the implementation of the project, in an area of 100 hectares, in the village of Kixima Bamba.
Speaking to the press, GESTERRA's CEO, the company that manages the farm, Carlos Paim highlighted that due to the nutritional value of soy, families in the region, who do not have the culture of growing this cereal, should be taught how to produce it in order to combat malnutrition.
The project will also cover other villages, with plans for the cultivation of 100 hectares of soybeans and corn.
In addition to technical assistance for new forms of production, Carlos Paim reported that 30 social houses, a school and a health center were built in the village of Kixima Bamba.
The Samba Lucala farm, in partnership with the company Agricultiva, has a public investment from the Angolan government of $54.6 million dollars and a production capacity of 30,000 tons/year of soybeans, beans and corn.
The project allowed for the 2022/2023 agricultural campaign to harvest 9k tons of corn and 4k tons of soybeans, with 11k tons of corn and 6k tons of soybeans expected for the current agricultural campaign (2023/2024).
The project covering an area of 10 thousand hectares has an irrigation system ensured by 23 pivots, a water containment dam of 450 cubic meters and 18 meters deep, a flooded area of 516 thousand cubic meters, a pumping station of 2,800 cubic meters/hour and 33 kilometers of PVC piping.
