Benguela - The agricultural perimeter of Vale do Cavaco in Benguela city needs over 300 tons of fertilizer annually to secure the production of more than 500 tons of bananas, compared to the current 400 tons/year harvested in 2019, its director, Bernardo Gaspar told ANGOP.
Bernardo Gaspar, who was speaking about the decrease in the current production levels, said that although there are no more difficulties with water for irrigation, the 180 farmers working at Vale do Cavaco are struggling with lack of fertilizers.
With 2,300 hectares in use and 180 farmers grouped in six associations, the Benguela agricultural belt currently has abundant water, because the levels of the water are recovered and there is a good climate for banana production.
