Luanda - The Angolan senior male handball team face Croatia, on Sunday, in the final group stage game, taking into account the qualification to the second stage of the world championship that is taking place in Egypt.

The game, to take place at the Borg El Arab pavilion, will start at 6 pm and is the first encounter between both teams in history. It counts for the second round of group C.

The national team must only focus on a victory, considering that the objective is to improve the penultimate position occupied in the previous edition.

After the defeat (25-30), last Friday, against Qatar in the opening round, Angola take  the fourth and last position of the series without a point and if the squad do not win Sunday’s game they will compromise their continuation in the race.

In the last round of this stage Angola will face Japan, on 19 Jan, an opponent that can be considered  of the same level as the Abgolan squad.

Croatia and Japan have one point each, as a result of the first round tie, in a group led by Qatar, with two. The top three finishers follow the other phase, while the last one disputes the qualifiers from 25th to 32nd places.

Friday results:

Angola-Qatar 25-30

DR Congo-Argentina 22-28

Cape Verde- Hungary 27-34

Tunisia-Poland 28-30

Croatia-Japan 29-29

Spain-Brazil 29-29

Sunday’s games:
