Luanda - The national senior male handball team will carry out the second phase of their preparation for the World Championship of the sport, to be held in Egypt in 2021, in one of the southern provinces of the country.

This information was given last Wednesday to the press, in Luanda, by the new president of the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND), José Júnior “Maninho”, at the end of a working meeting with the minister of Youth and Sports, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto.

José Júnior said that Huíla, Benguela and Huambo, one of these three regions in the south of the country, will be able to host the handball pre-team training programme aiming for the world cup of the sport, to take place from 13 to 31 January 2021, in Egypt.

He clarified that the name of the province and the training period will only be released after the program has been approved by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He recalled that the first phase of pre-selection preparation started on Saturday (28), in Luanda, with the aim of making the national team more cohesive and competitive.

He informed that FAAND plans to take the national team to the world stage earlier, in Egypt to hold some preparation meetings with local teams or other teams that will participate in the competition.

According to the president, FAAND needs 100 million kwanzas to carry out the training programme and the participation in the World Cup in the best way, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it foresees cuts in funds, which will force expenses reduction.
