Luanda – The president of the Angolan Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Armando Carlos Diogo, has been appointed director of the African Confederation of the sport.

According to a note to which ANGOP had access, this Friday, in Luanda, the Angolan deserved the trust of the continental governing body for his commitment to the promotion and development of this combat sport inside and outside the country.

"In recognition of his work, the African Confederation of Mixed Martial Arts (AMMAC) granted Mr. Armando the task of helping to develop this sport in Africa and the world", reads the note.

The note explains that the appointment of the national leader is the result of a development strategy, aimed at recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In reaction to the fact, Armando Diogo told ANGOP that the appointment will allow Angola to have a vote in all decisions surrounding the sport on the continent and in the world.

He also pointed out as a gain the possibility of attracting competitions to the country, and, with this, providing greater tourist visibility, in addition to facilitating the obtaining of transition contracts from amateur to professional.

Established in 2021, the Angolan Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (FAMMA) has been very active in carrying out actions aimed at promoting the sport throughout the country, organizing internal competitions and participating in African and world events.

In September this year, Angola hosted the African Championship, at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion, winning with a total of 39 medals, 18 Gold, 14 silver and 7 bronze.

The event had the participation of six countries, namely Angola (host), Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius, Algeria and South Africa.

The next edition will be played in Namibia, in 2024.
