Angola women handball team seek consolidation of hegemony in Yaoundé

Luanda – Angola national senior women handball team start Wednesday the quest for the 14th title and consolidation of their continental hegemony in the 24th edition of the African Handball Championship to take place in Yaoundé, Cameroon from June 8 to 18.

Angola have been crowned African champions 13 times out of a total of 23 championships the team participated, in which the Southern African country conquered eight titles in a row. The last title was achieved in 2018.

The second team with more titles is Congo (4) and Angola's opponents in group C of this championship.

Besides the gold medals, Angola were runners up in 1991 and  third placed in 1996, making a total of 15 podium finishes, since the beginning of the competition in 1974, a year before the proclamation of Independence of Angola.

After the withdrawal of Algeria, which never managed to win the Cup, Angola should fight for the first place in group C with Congo.

Due to Algeria's withdrawal, the Confederation of Africa (CAHB) has redefined the schedule of games. In the preliminary round, 15 matches will be played, against the 18 initially planned.
