Luanda – Angola and Cabo Verde drew goalless Thursday in the 1st round of the 2026 World Cup qualifying group D to take place in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

Played at National Stadium, Praia city, Cabo Verde, the match was completely balanced, with few clear goal scoring opportunities for either side, despite the intense football played by the two teams.

This is the second draw in the history of clashes between the two sides, after the 1-1 in 2009 in a FIFA friendly match, Cabo Verde, however, has two wins (1-0 in 2009) and 2-1 this year.

Angola reached five consecutive games without winning, registering 4 draws and a defeat.

Angola’s last win dates back to July 12 this year, in the 4-2 victory over Lesotho in the COSAFA Cup.

In the coming match, Angola face Mauritius on November 21, while Cabo Verde face Eswatini. MC/CF/AMP
