Luanda - With a score of less 19, Angola national basketball team are in disadvantage compared to Egypt (3) and South Sudan (2) in the fight for the sole African qualifying spot for the "Paris`2024" Olympic Games, via better classification in the Basketball World Cup, which is taking place in Asia.

Angola’s  negative balance is the result of a points deduction  of scored points (209) and conceded ones (309) achieved in the win over the Philippines 80-70, the defeats to Italy 67-81 and  the Dominican Republic 67-75, in the group stage, and China, 76-83, in the 17th to 32nd positions bout.

The African champions are the third best among the African countries in the world competition taking place in the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan, with 5 points, below South Sudan, in first place with 6 points, the same as Egypt, in second place.

The Basketball World Cup directly qualifies for the Olympic Games the first African in the overall standings and the best from Asia and Oceania. Two teams from America and Europe are also picked this way.

Teams that fail to qualify for the Olympic Games during the FIBA World Cup, play the pre-Olympic tournament, which gives them access to the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in France.
