Angola play decisive card at COSAFA Cup

Luanda - The national senior women's team football need to beat the counterpart of Eswatini, on November 9, to have chance to continue playing in the COSAFA Cup, which takes place in the city of Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

The stage of the decisive confrontation will be the Gelvandale Stadium, in KwaZaquele Ibhayi, at 1:30 pm, in a group A match, in which the Angolan ladies, coached by Maninho Loide, will have to do better to qualify for the second phase.


The national team, also known as Welwitschias Mirabilis (homage to the plant that only exists in Angola), started the event with a 0-2 loss to South Africa, and Friday it went no further than a draw (1-1) against the Union of the Comoros.


In this last challenge, with the goals to be obtained in the second part, the Angolans advanced in the scoring through Cristina Makua, but allowed the equalizer by Zaharouna Haoudadji.


Thus, the Angolans, who are vice champions of this tournament, occupy the fourth and last position of the group with one point, the same as Comoros (3rd).


South Africa lead the group with six points, thanks to the triumph against Eswatini, by an expressive 5-0.


The second position is occupied by Eswatini with three points, a place that can be stolen by Angola this Monday, depending also on other results.
