Angolan fighters miss podium at African judo championships

Luanda - The Angolan judo fighter, Diassonema Neide Mucungui, missed Saturday the chance to contest for any medal at the African Championships held in Dakar, Senegal, after being defeated by the Algerian Yamena Halata in the qualifying fight for the third place.

Angola was also represented by Maria Niangi, in the -70 kg. The athlete beat Chadian Demos Memneloum in the first phase, but lost in the quarter-final to the Burkinabe Aguirata Kabore.

In the category of 70 kg, the champion was the Tunisian Nihel Londolsi, who defeated her compatriot Mariem Khilifi, while bronze went to the Algerian Souad Bellakehal who defeated Aguirata Kabore.

In the +78 kg, the Angolan athlete, Joaquina Carlos Silva, lost in the quarter-finals to Algeria's Sonia Asselah and ended up missing the bronze medal after losing against the Algerian Meroua Mammeri.

In this category, the gold medal went to Tunisia's Nihel Cheikh Rouhou who overcame Algeria's Sonia Asselah in the final.
