Swimming World Cup: Angola focus on personal records

Luanda- Angola begins the World Junior Swimming Championship Monday (04 Sept) at the Netanya pool, Israel, with the focus on improving times and national records.

The National Team start with the sprinters Nyriam Morais and Carlota Silva, in the 100 meter backstroke.

Myriam and Carlota are the fastest national swimmers at this level. The former was awarded MVP of zone IV last May.

Carlota makes her debut with the national team, after winning three gold medals in the absolute national competition held last July.

Still in women's category, N’hara Fernandes and Stephanie Jurado are participating Monday in the 50m breaststroke.

In the men's category, the team, coordinated by technical director Artur Henriques, starts with David Padre in the 400m freestyle, Yusseni Furtado in the 100m backstroke as well as José Cochofel and Janel Tati in the 100m breaststroke.

The four have international representation for the national team in competitions on the continent.

Angola also participates in the event with swimmers such as Enze Anjos and Jasmine Lourenço, who will enter the scene on Tuesday.

Speaking to ANGOP on Sunday in Luanda, swimmer Janel Tati stated that the objective is to obtain the best possible mark, try to establish national records and dignify the country's flag.

This is the fifth event of its kind Angola is participating, after the previous editions held in the United Arab Emirates (2013), Singapore (2015), Budapest, Hungary (2019) and Peru (2022). JAD/MC/CF/NIC
