Luanda – The victory of Angolan Daniel Domingos over Australian Abhik Khatry 6-0 and 6-4 marked on Monday the opening of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Circuit tournament taking place at Kikuxi Villas Club (KVC) Academy, in Angolan capital, Luanda.

The Angolan player showed how competitive he was against an opponent considered the favorite for the win.

The 15-year old finished 13th in the African Tournament held in Algeria this year, after winning three of five singles matches he played.

The other Angolan Roberto Matondo beat Mozambique’s Afonso Santana, 6-0, while the Portuguese Rodrigo Duarte overcame the South African Reuben Lerne, 6-1-6-2.

In the women's category, the Angolan Dandara Roque was defeated by the Portuguese Carlota da França, 6-0.

The two-stage tournament (1st and 2nd leg), which takes place from November 6 to 17, brings together tennis players from Angola, South Africa, Australia, Botswana, France, India, Morocco, Mozambique, Poland, Portugal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.

Also known as the ITF World Tennis Tour J30 Luanda, the event organised by the Angolan Tennis Federation (FAT), with players aged between 13 and 18, is looking for ranking points that give them direct access to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) circuit.

This year, the country is hosting its third international tournament, after the African Under-14 Circuit in March and the Kikuxi Open in August, with athletes from the Southern Region of the continent, whose trophy was lifted by Angolan Chris André, who lives in Germany. GVA/MRA/AMP
