Luanda - The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been working with federations, youth associations and society in general so that young athletes be protected and achieve sporting, educational and pedagogical success.

Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, who was speaking to the press on Tuesday, in Luanda, at the reception of the national under-18 women's basketball team, bronze medallists at the African Championship, held in Madagascar, said that everyone should feel committed to that objective.

 

“That is why we ask society to protect girls, so that we have young girls who are well oriented and who manage not only to have successes in competitions, but also in personal life, especially in education and teaching”, reiterated the minister.

 

For her, it is important to continuously protect the young sports women taking into account the gains in competitions inside and outside Angola, so they should be encouraged by all sections of society.

 

Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto stated that, despite the campaign period for the elections on the 24 August, all support has been given to national and international sports commitments.

 

To conclude, the minister called on athletes of the national team of voting age to flock to the polls on 24 August then to return home and wait for the results.

 

On her turn, Elisa Pires, national coach said that the minister's reception was motivating for the upcoming engagements, mourning the failure to qualify for the 2023 World Cup.

 

The former Interclube player acknowledged that the country has many talents that need more work, and is aiming for gold medals in the short term.

 

In the African competition, the women's team ended up in the third position after beating Madagascar 53-37.

 

The Angola U-18 men’s team finished in the fourth position after losing to Mali 54-79, in the qualifying match for the third place.

 

Meanwhile, Mali women's team beat Egypt, 86-54, while the men's basketball team were defeated by Egypt.

 

Mali won the women´s event by defeating Egypt, 86-54, in the final, while the men´s event was won by Egypt, 81-54, over Madagascar.
