Lubango - Karate and volleyball are two of the 11 sports practiced by Benfica Petróleos do Lubango, which have been temporarily discontinued due to financial difficulties the club is experiencing since it lost its sponsorship from Sonangol ten years ago.

The sports have been without activity since October affecting directly 100 athletes from junior to senior athletes.

Speaking to ANGOP, Jacques da Conceição, said he regrets the situation warning that if the poor financial situation of the club prevails or worsens other sport activities will be doomed too.

He appealed to the business people and provincial government to join forces and help the Club to keep the remaining sport activities.

Created in 1932 as the 32nd branch of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Benfica of Lubango integrate football , futsal, chess, gymnastics, table tennis, athletics, capoeira, basketball and taekwondo-do (current national champions), where 847 athletes perform.
