Luanda - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Thursday in Luanda congratulated the Angola national football team on their "excellent campaign" in the first phase of the CAN'2023 taking place in Côte d'Ivoire.

Angola qualified in first place of Group D, with 7 points, ahead of Burkina Faso, and will face Namibia in the round of 16 on Saturday.

Antony Blinken, who was on a 24-hour official visit to Angola, said he followed all the teams' matches, especially of the Angola national team, whose performance he considered the best so far.

CAN'2023 enters the knockout phase on Saturday, with Portuguese-speaking teams, Angola, Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea seeking an unprecedented title.

Among the traditional teams, defending champions Senegal, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Cameroon and hosts Côte d'Ivoire are through to the round of 16.
