Bouaké - The Angolan National Football Team drew on Monday, in Bouaké, with Algeria to one goal, in the first round of Group D of the African Cup of Nations (CAN'2023), which takes place in Côte d´Ivoire.

The goals of the match, played at the Estadio da Paz, were scored by Baghdad Bounedjah, for Algeria, in the 18th minute, and Mabululo (68'), from a penalty.

With this result, the Palancas Negras, the nickname of the Angolan national team, made a positive start to their presence in this continental competition.

The Angolan team, technically led by the Portuguese Pedro Gonçalves, will play again this Saturday, with Mauritania, and on the 23rd of this month, with Burkina Faso, for the second and third rounds of this first phase of the competition.

The CAN was scheduled for 2023, but due to the intense period of rain in Côte d’Ivoire, the African Football Confederation (CAF) moved it to this year.

Angola participates in the competition for the ninth time, having made its debut in 1996, in South Africa. MC/VAB/DOJ
