Luanda - The first division National Football Championship (Girabola) should start on December 27, two days after the Christmas Celebration.

Twelve of the 16 clubs competing in the biggest competition of the king sport in the country, gathered recently, showed up this counter proposal to the Angolan Football Federation (FAF).

The governing body proposed December 19 as the starting date of the event, but the clubs, led by the commission for the creation of the Angola Football League, intend it to be only on the 27th of the same month.

The objective is to give participants more time to comply with the bio-safety protocol (due to Covid-19) defined for the exercise of federated sports activities, with emphasis on the creation of conditions for conducting regular tests.

This event should start this year and be played within a minimum period of six months, after which the FAF must appoint representatives to African competitions, under penalty of sanctions by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

With five rounds left to play, the past championship, then led by Petro de Luanda, with 54 points, against 51 on the 1º of Agosto, second with a game remaining, was cancelled last March following the presidential decree on the state of emergency.
