Luanda – Part of the Angolan delegation to the Tokyo Olympic Games, taking place from July 23 to August 8, in Japan, left Luanda this Monday, heading for the stage of the event.

The delegation, led by the head of the country's Olympic mission, Mário Rosa de Almeida, is made up of the senior female team for handball and sailing, while the judo and the athletics representative will embark on the 19th and 26th of this month, respectively.

 

The swimming team will join the delegation in Europe.

 

Of the 39 members of the delegation, there are 23 females and 16 males, according to Mário Rosa.

 

On Sunday, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, handed over the National Flag to the Angolan delegation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, urging its members to honor the Nation.

 

This is the ninth presence of Angola in the biggest global sporting event, after Moscow`1980, Seoul`1988, Barcelona`1992, Atlanta`1996, Sydney`2000, Athens`2004, Beijing`2008, London`2012 and Rio` 2016.
