Luanda - The 42-year old power forward, Eduardo Mingas, has been called in the last minute to join the Angola national basketball team ahead of their participation in the pre-Olympic tournament in Lithuania to be held from June 29 to July 4 and the African basketball championship Afrobasket2021, ANGOP has learnt.

The national basketball team’s coach has called up the player for respect, consideration and gratitude for the work of the seasoned player, says the website of the Angolan basketball federation (FAB).

Despite his age, Mingas was the most used athlete of his team (1º de Agosto) in the Angola Basketball Cup final, with 43 minutes and 29 seconds becoming the second top scorer with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assistances and 4 snatchings.

The player’s arrival comes at a time when much is said about the need for major renewal in the national team, taking into account the large number of young pre-selected players, some of them playing abroad, more specifically in college basketball in the United States of America.

The national team is scheduled to leave for Spain on Wednesday to take part in 15-day pre-competitive matches with Catalonia and Badalona teams.

After the withdrawal of five athletes, here are the pre-selected players: Gerson Domingos, Childe Dundão, Gildo Santos, Pedro Bastos, Carlos Morais, Gelson Gonçalves, José António, Leonel Paulo, Selton Miguel, Edson Ndoniema, Malik Cissé, Rifen Miguel, Alexandre Jungo, Jonatão Ndjungo, Glofate Buimba, Aboubakar Gakou, Yanick Moreira, Valdelício Joaquim, Jone Pedro, Jilson Bango and Bruno Fernando.

Jacques da Conceição, Wilson Ambrósio, Juscelino Ricardo, Fidel Cabita and Melvyn da Silva have already been released.
