Luanda - The list A candidate, Egas Viegas, defeated in the elections for the presidency of 1º de Agosto club held on Saturday in Luanda, has considered it unfair and with a lot of irregularities.

Beaten by Sã Miranda (list B) With 2,341 votes in favor, for the four-year term 2024-28, the sports law jurist pointed out situations that led him to withdraw from the race for the leadership of one of the most emblematic clubs in Angola founded in 1979.

“After facing a series of obstacles and attempts to block the candidacy, the List A decided not to participate in the election, out of respect for its supporters and the club's internal democracy”, reads the communication to which ANGOP had acces Sunday .

The note adds that the decision is to reiterate the commitment to transparency, ethics and respect for democratic norms, placing dignity above power.

History, according to Viegas, will absolve his decision not to participate in an electoral process that he considers flawed and illegal.

After the publication of the results, the electoral commission reported that it had maintained list A in the process as it had not received any official notification about the withdrawal.

General Sá Miranda beat Egas Viegas with 2,341 votes in favor against 388 for his opponent, for a total of 2,740 votes, 28 blank votes were registered, 15 invalid and none (0) claimed.
