Luanda - The coordinator of the technical group for the creation of the Angola Football Clubs League, Alves Simões, has said he is waiting for the authorization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MJD) for the registration of the competition in the African Confederation, shortly after the end of the 2020-2021 Girabola.

Speaking to Angop on the implementation of the new model of dispute of the national competition, Mr. Simões said, the start of the league remains uncertain since it does not depend only on the technical group, but also on the intervention of other sports sectors of the country.

The former president of Interclube added that so far significant steps have been taken to obtain experience at the organizational level of this type of event.

He highlighted the work done last June in Portugal with organizing members of the Portuguese League, created in 1934.

The technical group also includes members of the jurisdictional, technical sport, arbitration and discipline council of the Angola Football Federation, besides three representatives indicated by the clubs.

The creation of the League to replace Girabola is a long-standing issue, and its urgent implementation was endorsed at the national football conference held in June 2015.

However, its practical implementation is still far from happening given its specific nature.

With the governing body halted for more than eight months due to administrative issues, some actions have stalled at a time when a FIFA advisor was already in place for this purpose.
