African League: Petro de Luanda face Mamelodi Sundowns

Luanda - Petro de Luanda will receive South Africa's Memelodi Sundowns on Saturday, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the first edition of the new continental competition named African Football League (AFL), to be played at the 11 November stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 4.30 pm.

In history, the champions of Angola and South Africa have met six times in the Champions League.

Petro de Luanda stand out among African clubs, having qualified for the semi-finals twice, in 2001 and 2022, while the South African team won the Champions League in 2016 and finished runners-up in the same competition in 2001.

This edition, which is scheduled to kick off this Friday, in Dares-Salam, between Tanzania's Simba and Egypt's Al Ahly at 4 pm, will be contested by eight teams.
