Luanda - The former player José do Amaral Júnior "Maninho" (B list) is since Saturday the new president of the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND), after beating Zeca Venâncio (A list), by 53 votes to 12.

The substitution of Pedro Godinho, in office since 2008, won by galloping numbers in almost every election cycle, with only a two-vote draw in Cabinda and a defeat in Bengo.

In Luanda, Maninho won 10-2, followed by Lunda Sul (6-0), Lunda Norte (4-0), Benguela (4-2), Moxico (4-0), Namibe (5-0), Kwanza Sul (4-1), Malanje (3-2), Huambo (4-0), Bié (3-0), Uíge (3-1), Cabinda (2-2) and Bengo (1-2).

The sports manager's list for the four-year period 2020/24 includes personalities from the sport, including Nair de Almeida, Ana Paula Silva "Palu", Óscar do Nascimento and Domingos do Nascimento, all as vice-presidents.

José do Amaral Júnior trained as an athlete at Petro Atletico de Luanda, then moved on to 1º de Agosto, where he was five-time national champion in 1983/1987.

In his first statements to the press, in Luanda, the new handball commander said that the victory was of the sport, having appreciated the fact that the opponent congratulated him even before the conclusion of the election, considering the gesture as an attitude of "fair play".
