Luanda - International Master (IM) David Silva won the third edition of the Sonangol Fast Chess Cup on Wednesday, in Luanda, after beating IM Erikson Soares in the final, in an event to mark the 48th anniversary of the National Fuel Company of Angola, E.P (SONANGOL), to be marked on the 25th of this month.

The chess player, who plays in France, finished the competition with six points, due to the record of six wins and one defeat in seven rounds.

Second place went to Candidate Master (CM), Cambando José, with 5.5 points, five wins, one loss and the same number of draws, while in third place was Specialist (E), Jaime Sonhy, with 5 points, five wins and two losses.

In the women's category, Master Fide (MF) Luzia Pires was the big winner, followed by MF, Ednasia Junior and Jemima Paulo third place.

In the company workers' sector, Walter Frances, with six points, was the winner, with six wins and one defeat. António Assis and Vander Manuel came next.

The unified event, with the participation of 20 federated players, played on a Swiss system, also served as a prelude to the 13th edition of the African Games, to be held from 8 to 23 March in Ghana.

David Silva considered it to have been a difficult conquest taking into account the level of the opponents also because he is not so good in rapid competitions.

According to the two-time African junior champion, who is number one in the national rankings with 2418 elo points, he has been able to improve and collect data with a view to the African Games, where the aim is the podium.

The player from the French team Bois-Colombes added that in Ghana he will also be playing in the African Absolute Individual Championships, from the 12th to the 28th of the same month, where the aim is the same which is to be on the podium.

In the African games, David Silva will be going to be a double with the Master Fide Ednásia Junior, who leads the national ranking in the women's category with 1,830 points,

However, in the African individual absolute, besides David Silva, the competition also counts on the participation of Ednásia Júnior, Jemima Paulo and Amorim Agnelo.
