Sports Ministry reassures greater support for national football

Luanda - The Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, guaranteed today (Sunday), in Luanda, greater attention and support for the upcoming commitments of the National Football Team, with emphasis on the qualification phase for the 2025 African Championship and the World Cup 2026.

Speaking to ANGOP, on the sidelines of the reception ceremony for the Palancas Negras, at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, she stated that the quarter-finals obtained in CAN'2023, in Côte d'Ivoire, deserve all the support and increased conditions for the next challenges.

Without providing financial amounts, Palmira Barbosa said the “brilliance” shown by the athletes and the technical team in the African race was commendable, as they promoted joy and national pride in the international sphere.

The Angolan team is engaged in the African qualifiers for the World Championship, scheduled for 2026, in the United States of America, Mexico and Canada and for the next CAN'2025 to be played in Morocco.

The reception of the Palancas Negras (nickname of the national team) ended in Luanda Bay, where the delegation was received by hundreds of fans, with cultural entertainment, as well as government entities.

During CAN'2023, which takes place in Côte d'Ivoire, Angola beat Mauritania (3-2), Burkina Faso (2-0), Namibia (3-0), conceded a draw against Algeria (1-1) and lost to Nigeria, 0-1. JAD/VAB/DOJ
