Luanda - José Moniz Silva is the new chairperson of the Angolan Basketball Federation, after winning the elections for the 2020/24 four-year period, with 17 votes.

The former vice-president for basketball of 1º de Agosto (list A) beat in the competition Armando Dala Docas (11 votes) and Manuel Moreira (1 vote).

José Moniz Silva thus becomes the seventh president of the FAB.

FAB was already chaired by Jose Guimarães "Piriquito" (1977-1987), Carlos Teixeira "Cagi" (1987-1996), António Pires Ferreira (1996-2004), Gustavo da Conceição (2004-2012), Paulo Madeira (2012-2016) and Hélder Cruz "Maneda" (2016-2019).

To increase the number of practitioners, to invest seriously in the training of trainers, to improve the internal organization of the entity, as well as to improve the performance of national teams are the elected president's priorities.

The elections took place at a time when the FAB was led by a management committee,

coordinated by Gustavo da Conceição, since 2019, after a leadership crisis which has been installed in the body, which culminated in  the resignation of the then chairman of the board, Hélder Martins da Cruz "Maneda".
