Luanda – The 42nd edition of the national senior women’s handball championship is to kick off on Tuesday with the match between 1º de Agosto and 1º de Maio de Benguela at Luanda’s Multipurpose Kilamba pavilion.

It will be the second time that the multipurpose venue hosts a national championship after the 2014 season.

The competition is to run simultaneously with the men's handball championship until May 9.

The women’s competition will be running in a round-robin system, given that the top four teams qualify for the next phase, which will dispute the qualification to the final.

The holding of the competitions in more than one field aims to avoid crowds due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Escolinha de São João do Huambo and Desportivo da Lunda Sul appear for the first time in the men 's competition, while Grupo Desportivo da Banca return twelve years later.

Interclube men’s team are the current champions, while 1 º de Agosto women’s hold the title in that category.
