Luanda - The Angolan national football team´s head coach, Pedro Gonçalves, said Saturday in Luanda that the team still has the morale to try and get the only victory in the qualifiers for the CAN2022, despite being already out of the "race" for the final phase of the biggest African competition at national team level.

The Portuguese coach was speaking online at the end of a training session, ahead of the next Monday's match with Gabon, to close the campaign, to be held from 4pm, at the 11 de Novembro Stadium, in the country's capital.

He said the group will seek to close with dignity, despite it being a match to fulfil the schedule, having informed that he will make changes in relation to the defeat (0-1) against the Gambia, last Thursday.

Angola are on the bottom of group D with just one point from five games, while Gabon, with 10 points, have already qualified, like Gambia. Another team from the series that has been left out is the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), third with six points.

According to Pedro Gonçalves, the players and the technical team are moralized in the search for the only victory in a qualifying round without success.

He considered the campaign a "learning process" during which he managed to overcome some obstacles, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, with emphasis on the way of working and the fact of having brought new players to build a team to respond to the qualifiers of the next world cup in Qatar.

For his part, midfielder Fredy said he hoped for a positive reaction from the group, while newcomer Loyd spoke of determination and responsibility within the team that will play an opponent already qualified.

After returning Friday from Banjul, where they lost (0-1) to Gambia, the national team held, this Saturday, another training session, during which they improved, among other things, the tactics to be used, on Monday, against the Gabonese.
