Luanda - Petro de Luanda confirmed the first position in group C of the African Champions Clubs League and is in the quarter-finals, thanks to the victory, on Saturday night, against Etolie from the Tunisian Sahel, by 2-0, at the 11 de Novembro Stadium, at the end of the initial phase of the competition.

The national champion's goals were scored by Jonathan Toro, in the 78th minute, and Julinho, in the 71st minute, after a “millimetric” pass from Gilberto “Gibelé”, a sensational athlete from the National Team at CAN`2023, played in Côte d`Ivoire.

The Angolan champion finished this stage of the race with 12 points, followed by Esperance de Tunis, in second, with 11 points. AL-Hilal from Sudan came third (5 pts) and Etoile Sahel from Tunisia came fourth (4 pts).

During this period, the “tricolors” scored six goals against none conceded, in a group in which they overcame two of the best Tunisian and African teams: Esperance de Tunis, four-time champion (1994, 2011, 2018 and 2019) and Etolie Sahel, champion (2007).

With this result, Petro is exempt from facing the first placed teams in the groups (A, B and D), waiting for the second overall in the draw to be held later this month, with the exception of the second in their group (Esperance de Tunis). JAD/MC/DOJ
