Luanda – Angola State oil company (Sonangol) will soon have a professional chess players team, as part of its social responsibility, the company’s CEO Sebastião Martins announced Thursday.

Speaking to ANGOP on the sidelines of the recently ended chess tournament, to celebrate the company's 48th anniversary, Sebastião Martins said the aim is to respond to the needs of young people.

For him, Sonangol has young workers (and others) who can work and at the same time get involved in this sport, allowing the sport to be promoted and intellectual development to take place.

"The aim is to have more African champions for the country in the individual sport. That's why I reiterate that chess will be one of the sports to benefit from aid so that the sport can grow and Sonangol can also benefit from the gains” Martins said.
