Talatona - Angola will be presenting climate change strategies, without compromising the need for resources for economic development, at the Cop 28 conference during the Expo City in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

COP 28, which takes place from 30 November to 12 December, is an annual event promoted by the United Nations (UN), bringing together representatives from all over the world.

The Minister for the Environment, Ana Paula De Carvalho Pereira, who was speaking at a consultation meeting, said that the country intends to raise "Its Good Name" at the conference, with an exhibition prepared for the purpose.

The stand, she said, will be equipped with television sets to broadcast messages about the actions carried out by the Angolan Executive, as part of the energy transition process, which have contributed to combating climate change and reducing carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases.

She pointed out that COP 28 will open on 30 November, while 01 and 02 December are reserved for the country to take part in an event at the highest level. The programme also includes the opening of the Angola exhibition on the 3rd.

In turn Sonangol's CEO, Sebastião Gaspar Martins, said that Angola would be showing its commitment to decarbonisation and a balance based on needs, as it is a country whose economy still depends on oil and gas.

Sebastião Gaspar Martins said that the national concessionaire was committed to implementing projects focused on combating climate issues, the greenhouse effect and solar energy.

"We will be presenting the theme Our Journey, focused on guaranteeing the sustainability of society without compromising the energy transition," he concluded.

The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or UNFCCC Conference of the Parties, more commonly referred to as COP28, will be the 28th United Nations conference on climate change, held from 30 November to 12 December 2023 at Expo City, Dubai. GIZ/MAG/VM/DAN/DOJ
