Luanda - A Memorandum of Understanding for the feasibility of studies and possible construction of an oil pipeline between the port city of Lobito (Angola) and Lusaka (Zambia) is be signed this week, in Luanda.
The Memorandum will be signed by the Angolan minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, and the holder of the Zambian Energy portfolio, Mathew Nkuwa, who is expected this Thursday in the Angolan capital.
ANGOP was informed from an official source that for the past three years Zambia has shown interest in building a pipeline that crosses the Angolan territory from the west (Benguela Province) up to the neighbouring Zambia, to receive oil products.
According to the visit programme, before signing the document, the Zambian minister travels to the Barra do Dande Oceanic Terminal (TOBD), under construction in the northern Bengo Province.
Recently, the ambassador of Zambia to Angola, Lawrence Chalungumana, discussed with minister Diamantino Azevedo issues of common interest.
On the occasion, the Zambian diplomat said that the construction of the pipeline will be an opportunity for Angola to enter the regional market, and will generate more jobs and electricity.
