Luanda – Angola will attend from 06 to 10 December the plenary meeting of the Kimberley Process, set to take place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

According to a note that has reached ANGOP, the gathering will discuss several proposals presented throughout the first semester of the current year, as well as from the meeting held last October.

The note states that the meeting will also focus on the Definition Subgroup led by the World Diamond Council, the Technical Assistance group chaired by the Republic of South Africa, the Main Document group led by Botswana, as well as the Good Practices Subgroup chaired by India.

Zimbabwe currently chairs the Kimberley process, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) holds the vice chair.

At least representatives of 85 countries are expected to attend this gathering. The Angolan delegation will be led by the executive co-ordinator of the National Commission for Kimberly Process.

The Kimberley Process is the international organism that certifies the origin of rough diamonds. It also mobilises institutions around the world towards the need to reduce the flow of conflict diamonds.
