Luanda - Angola is from 21 to 25 of this month taking part in a mid-term meeting of the Kimberley Process Certification System, running in virtual format, Angolan news agency Angop learned Saturday.

The Angolan delegation to the event will include senior officials from the National Kimberley Process Commission, Endiama and Sodiam, who are due to discuss ethics and responsibility in the diamond industry, as well as the definition of a conflict diamond.

Convened by the Chair of the Kimberley Process, Alexey Moiseev, participants will reflect on the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR), as well as the digitalization of the Kimberley Process certificate.

Listening to proposals from potential candidates to host the Permanent Secretariat of the Kimberley Process is also on the meeting's agenda, according to the National Commission of the Kimberley Process.

As well as Angola, representatives of the 82 member countries of the International Kimberley Process Certification Scheme are due to take part in the event.

Alongside the meeting, a special forum on the responsible sourcing of rough diamonds is expected to be held.

The Kimberley Process is the body that guarantees the certification of diamonds sold around the world, ensuring that they do not come from conflict zones.

Angola has been a member of the Kimberley Process since 2003.

It held the chair in 2015 and the vice-chair in 2014.
