Angola takes part in Diamond Global Summit

Luanda – A delegation from the Óscar Ribas University (UOR) is to represent Angola in the Global Summit on Diamond Open Access, taking place from 23 to 27 October, in Toluca, Mexico.

The event, which is expected to be attended by more than 550 participants from 55 countries on the African, Asian, European and American continents, aims to foster a constructive dialogue to promote equity, sustainability, quality and the use of scientific communication.

According to a press release to which ANGOP had access, the summit marks a crucial commitment to establishing an inclusive global dialogue for the exchange of ideas, promoting cooperation and coordinating academic communication practices.

The note says that on the first day of the event, which is expected to bring together more than 200 participants in person and 350 online, the Rector of Óscar Ribas University, Eurico Gungula, will deliver a speech on "Open access to diamonds in Angola".

In addition to this topic, the event also includes a magazine publishers international conference and different separate meetings.

Participants will also discuss how to implement collective actions in line with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Recommendation on Open Science and the Budapest Open Access Initiative, as well as how to strengthen an inclusive academic publishing sector that does not charge fees to authors or readers.

"Science as a common good", "Diamond scientific publishing in open access: A common and public good", are some of the themes of the event.

The participants will also discuss the global future regarding Open Access to Diamonds in scientific publications.

The summit includes experts from the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), the European Commission, UNESCO and representatives from the governments of Mexico, Argentina and Angola.
