Over $12,000 dollars in cash seized at Luvo on way to DRC

Mbanza Kongo – The Angolan Customs Tax Police seized $12,200 dollars in cash on Thursday, at Luvo village, municipality of Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The amount was found inside a backpack belonging to a 48-year-old Angolan citizen, when he intended to cross the border to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to the spokesperson for the Zaire Provincial Command of the National Police, intendant Luís Bernardo, in statements this Friday to ANGOP, the seizure of the aforementioned amount results from “Operation Barometer” carried out by the Customs Fiscal Police, in cooperation with the General Tax Administration (AGT).

He clarified that the aforementioned citizen is committing the crime of fraud in the transport of currency abroad, foreseen and punishable under the terms of No. 01 of article 464, of the Penal Code, in conjunction with Notice no. 6/22, of the National Bank of Angola (BNA).

The seized values were handed over to the Luvo Customs Post of the 1st Tax Region of the General Tax Administration (AGT), while the alleged offender is facing legal action.

The border commune of Luvo is 60 kilometers north of the city of Mbanza Kongo. DMN/JL/CF/DOJ
