Cacuso - Production of 120,000 tons of white sugar started this Friday at Companhia de Bio-combustíveis de Angola (Biocom), located in Cacuso municipality, in Angola's Malanje province.

The factory is also producing 18,000 cubic metres of neutral ethanol for the beverage, hygiene and hospital industries, as well as 63,000 megawatts of renewable electrical power, said Biocom's deputy director general, Luís Bagorro.

According to the official, who was speaking at the opening of the 2021 harvest, to materialise this process 27,700 hectares of cane were cultivated, which is making it possible to harvest about 23,000 tonnes of raw material for the manufacture of sugar, ethanol and energy.

"Biocom's production is 100 per cent national, which is making it possible to reduce imports, saving foreign exchange and strengthening the national industry, in search of food self-sufficiency and promoting the sustainable development of the sugarcane production chain," he stressed.

On the occasion, the official highlighted the company's alignment with the Executive's programmes, especially PRODESI, with the production of sugar, basic goods and neutral ethanol for the prevention and combat of Covid-19.
