Luanda - The Social Grants project launched Tuesday represents an innovative investment instrument to assist family farming and impact generation of wealth and the fight against poverty in a sustainable way, the Finance Minister Vera Daves de Sousa has said.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Social Grant project by the Angolan Securities Exchange (BODIVA), the minister said the objectives of the project go beyond financial profit.

"This initiative provides investors with an opportunity to invest their resources into projects that aim to generate a positive social impact, without jeopardizing the legitimate expectations of a financial return," the minister said.

The minister added that the Social Grant initiative helps the most vulnerable families and creates conditions for self-sufficiency.

Vera Daves explained that the Social Grant will support the productive sectors linked to family farming, since this segment generates wealth and fights poverty in a sustainable way providing "social profit".

According to the minister, the instrument will enable organisations and entrepreneurs to raise funds for initiatives on social, economic, environmental and cultural issues, attracting investors seeking to make a difference in society.

"With the launch of the Social Grants project, conditions are in place for organisations and entrepreneurs to make a difference in society," the minister said.

The Secretary of State for Family and Promotion of Women, Alcina da Cunha Kindanda, on her turn, said the project is an important instrument to help vulnerable families, particularly those in rural areas.

With this initiative, Alcina da Cunha said, families will have access to fund and technical assistance to develop small businesses, process products, production flow, along with financial literacy.

"Families will be able to improve their incomes and thus the quality of life of their households. We hope that this project can benefit as many organisations and families as possible," Cunha said.

The Social Grant run by BODIVA will develop the first phase in partnership with the Association for Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship (SEIVA) in Dombe Grande region, Benguela Province.

The project budgeted at 450 million Kwanzas for the coming three years, will particularly focus on empowering rural women and reduce financing costs of agricultural activity for 1,250 families OPF/AC/MRA/AMP
