Cabinda - The equipment for construction and assembly of the Cabinda Refinery began arriving Sunday at the Malembo plain, where the infrastructure will be assembled.

The material made up of steel and metal structures, was unloaded at the Port of Ponta-Negra (Pointe Noire), Republic of Congo, and through the Massabi land border (Angola), then transported to the Malembo plain.

The deputy governor of Cabinda, Guilherme Pereira, witnessed the arrival of the equipment.

In May of this year, the equipment, which were made in Houston, United States, have undergone to factory acceptance testing at the VFuels facilities, the company that built and assembled the steel and metal structures.

The tests on the equipment were witnessed, in Houston, by the Angolan minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, the Sonangol board chairman, Gaspar Martins, and the Executive President of Gemcorp Holdings Ltd, Atanas Bostanddjev.

The Cabinda refinery is estimated to cost US$ 1 billion and will have an installed capacity to process 60,000 barrels daily, right after the conclusion of the three implementation phases.

However, it should be noted that in this first phase it will have a crude oil distillation unit of 30,000 barrels of oil per daily, a desalination unit, another paraffin treatment unit, pipelines and a storage terminal for over 1.2 million barrels of crude oil.

In the second and third phases there will be an additional 30,000 barrels daily, including catalytic reforming, hydro-treatment and catalytic cracking units, which should transform the refinery into a total conversion facility.

The Cabinda refinery will produce petrol, diesel, liquid gas, oil, Jet A1 fuel and paraffin, whose main objective is the economic development of Angola and the Cabinda province particularly.

Over 1,300 jobs are guaranteed during the assembly and operation of this important economic infrastructure.

Cabinda Province has experienced critical moments related to the reduction of fuel at the filling stations, especially during the peak season, considering that the region gets the product from Luanda Refinery, through sea way.
