Credit to non-financial sector stands at AKZ 6.01 trillion

Luanda – The Gross credit to non-financial sector in January 2024 totaled 6.01 trillion Kwanzas, an increase of roughly 1.3 trillion Kwanzas (27.97%) compared to the same period last year, when the debt of the private sector represented 88.65% the public sector debt represented 11.35% , ANGOP has learnt.

According to the Statistical Information on Credit for January, published Monday by the National Bank of Angola, the indebtedness of the non-financial public sector totaled 681.78 billion kwanzas, of which 49.30 percent are related to the public administration and 50.70 percent to public companies.

It adds that there has been recorded an year-on-year increase of 319.72 billion Kwanzas (88.30 per cent).

The BNA adds that the indebtedness of the private sector (private companies and individuals) went from 4.33 trillion kwanzas in January 2023 to 5.32 trillion in January 2024. The indebtedness of non-financial private companies totaled 4.12 trillion.

As regards to the Real Sector, the statement adds, in January 2024 gross credit allocated to this sector totaled 1.24 trillion Kwanzas, a 92.84 billion Kwanzas (8.08%) compared to the same period last year, driven mainly by the increase in resources channeled to the "Extractive Industries" sub-sector, of around 119.22 billion Kwanzas (58.83%).

 Despite the increase, the statement says, the weight of gross credit to the Real Sector in the total credit portfolio in the banking circuit fell by 3.2 per cent year-on-year to 21.47 percent in January 2024, due to the greater increase in credit to the non-productive sectors (29.58 per cent).

 As for the sectors of economic activity, the total credit granted to the real sector in the period under review, the Manufacturing sub-sector tops with 614.23 billion Kwanzas (49.47%).

 The Extractive Industries sub-sector is also part of the top, with 321.87 billion Kwanzas (25.97 per cent), followed by Agriculture, Animal Production, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing sub-sector with 305.41 billion Kwanzas (24.60 per cent).HM/AC/AMP
