Luanda - A cruise to assess the country's fisheries resources will take place from June to August this year, and in addition to Angola, it will cover other countries like Namibia, South Africa and Gabon, Angop has learnt.
This is a joint activity between Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
The three-month cruiser provides for a detailed study of the immigration pattern and abundance of resources throughout the area of their distribution, the director general of the National Institute of Fisheries and Marine Research (INIPM), Filomena Vaz Velho said on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop of the national biological sampling programme (PNAB ), going under the motto “Support for sustainable fishing”, Filomena Vilho told the press that the navigation route has been defined by the sharing, in geographical terms, of resources with Namibia and South Africa. Due to the cold Benguela current, and also with Gabon because it belongs to the current hot from Angola.
"This cruise includes not only Angola, but also South Africa, reaching Gabon because the resources do not obey the borders, and in order to have a vision of what is happening with the resources of our country and also with those of others," she says.
She added that for this cruise, 10 Angolan researchers are expected to work in Angolan waters for a period of 31 days, after which there will be a reduction of Angolan researchers to unite with some of the countries to be investigated.
