Ramiros - The buildings Lote 1, located in the Prenda neighbourhood, and 82, in Rua Comandante Valódia, in Luanda, will soon be demolished, as they are part of a group of more than 100 buildings that are at risk of collapsing across the country, said Monday in Luanda, the Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos dos Santos.

In the same context, he also pointed to the demolition of the FAPA building in Huambo province, among others that are also on the verge of collapse.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the Ministrie´s first Consultative Council, held on the 21st and 22nd of this month in Luanda, the minister reiterated that these buildings are part of a universe of more than 500 dilapidated buildings catalogued throughout the country.

Without giving a date for the demolition of these buildings, Carlos dos Santos said that the government was working to create conditions to house the residents of the affected buildings.

As part of this, the government has already made 41 homes available to accommodate the same number of families who left the Prenda Lote 1 building.

The demolition of dilapidated infrastructures is authorised by Presidential Order No. 255/23, of 25 October, which justifies this action by the advanced state of degradation of the buildings, putting human lives at risk.

The list of demolitions in Luanda also includes the unfinished building in Maianga, located on Rua Amilcar Cabral, building 7 "the former Mirui bookshop building", on Comandante Valódia at Ingombota district and buildings no. 80, 84, also located on the same avenue. AKA/QCB/MRA/DOJ
