Cambulo - Two new diamond mines are expected to start operating this year in the north-eastern province of Lunda Norte, aiming to increase levels of mineral production and tax revenues.

The fact was announced (Wednesday), in Cambolo, by the chairman of the Board of Directors of National Diamonds Company (ENDIAMA EP), Ganga Júnior, in statements to the press, on the sidelines of the unveiling of the Luembe and Chiumbe mines, located in the municipality of Cambulo, province of Lunda Norte.

Without giving technical details, regarding reserves and the lifetime of the mines, he said that entry into operation will increase the contribution share of the diamond sub-sector to the national economy and in the General State Budget (OGE) and reduce the levels of poverty in the region.

He added that it is also intended, with the entry into operation of these mines, to improve the economic performance of the diamond sub-sector and increase the supply of jobs.

Furi Mine

Regarding the Furi mine, the official stressed that it is a project that will increase the levels of tax revenue collection in the diamond sub-sector and contribute to the reduction of unemployment in the region.

He said that the mine should produce, on average, 15 to 20 thousand carats/month, with each carat being able to be sold at about US $300, representing a turnover in the order of five to six million dollars/month.

Social support fund

On the fund to support sustainable development in mining areas, announced in 2020, Ganga Júnior said that currently structures are being created to have sources of regular financing for the social responsibility programme of ENDIAMA EP, to be implemented by the Foundation Brilliant, in the region.

He said that the project, with specific programmes, will involve all diamond companies and partners, namely service providers, who should contribute to the collection of a value of US $30 million/year.

The amounts may be applied to agricultural and cultural projects, construction of schools, health units, housing, health, energy, among others.
