Luanda - The deputy-secretary of the Department of Agriculture of the United States of America (USA), Xochitl Torres Small, said Monday that her country intends to invest in Angola in staff training, especially in the field of agriculture.

The American official, who was speaking to the press, after a hearing with the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António Assis, also indicated that there is cooperation with Angola in livestock farming, with exports of beef, goat and beef to the USA, as well as sheep.

Aspects such as commerce, the distribution of school meals and family farming were discussed at the meeting.

They also reviewed the identification, by the USA, of seed that is resilient to climate change and drought, as well as the issue of product flow to distant areas, including the Lobito corridor.

For his part, minister António Assis, without specifying, recalled that there are instruments initialed by the presidents of Angola, João Lourenço, and the US, Joe Biden, which are already being dealt with.

The Angolan official explained that in the sector he heads, cooperation is developing in two directions, namely institutionally, that is, between Governments, and in scientific exchange.

He reinforced that the training and qualification of technicians is a priority to exchange experiences and develop the private sector.

The delegation of North American businesspeople, led by Xochitl Torres Small, is in Angola for a three-day working visit.
