Luanda - The Angolan Executive will continue to support national producers, with a view to increasing the supply of goods, essentially food, to contribute to price stability in the country's economy, the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, assured on Saturday, in Luanda.
Speaking to the press, at the end of a visit to the fishing companies “Rukka” and “Atlântico Foods”, located in the municipality of Viana (Luanda), the government official recognized the existence of enormous potential in the Angolan business fabric to diversify the national economy, without necessarily creating new business segments, giving strength to companies already operating in Angola.
As an example, he said, Rukka, the only company dedicated to building vessels for artisanal fishing, surveillance and inspection of seas and rivers in the country, still has limited demand, because most of these resources are imported.
As for the fish processing company Atlântico Foods, the minister said that the situation is similar, that is, it does not always find space in the domestic market, because it has competition from imported frozen fish, a fact that constitutes “nonsense”, taking into account the fishing potential of Angolan seas and rivers.
“During the visit, it was found that the country continues to favor imports, to the detriment of national products available on the domestic market,” he added.
According to José de Lima Massano, this scenario needs to be reversed to enhance the production capacity of existing companies.
To this end, he recalled that the Government has already taken some measures to essentially consume products made in Angola, an exercise that will continue, with financial support, market access for companies, among other economic instruments, aiming to have greater supply of goods and services, increase in jobs and ensure the sustainability of the national economy.
He considered the fishing sector vital, as it produces one of the most consumed foods in the country, a fact that requires a more organized industry.
To achieve this, he said, it is necessary to create internal capabilities to produce the means and equipment for processing fish locally.
The visit to the fishing companies was also attended by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen dos Santos, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rui Miguêns, among other individuals. QCB/AC/DOJ
