Benguela – Benguela’s governor Luís Nunes on Friday asked for more unity among the local business class, given the economic potential of the province, ANGOP learned.

In his speech during the inauguration of the Benguela Business Alliance headquarters, Luís Nunes considered that the entry into operation of the Lobito Corridor and the Refinery will make the province the largest logistics center in the country.

'The Benguela business class has to fight to be in the business, but to do so it has to be united. Unity is strength,' he warned.

In turn, the president of the Benguela Business Alliance, Adérito Areias, stated that he has no doubt that the Lobito Corridor will be one of the country's great development hubs and, therefore, they will do everything they can to take advantage of the opportunities that arise.

He spoke about the current state of the province's business community, recognizing that 'it must be better organized to be able to provide better services'.

'Today, amateurism in Angola is over. In order to be able to participate in competitions and achievements, we must be properly organized and well equipped to be able to face the challenges,' he stated.

Asked about the bakeries and building materials stores 'in the hands' of Lebanese and Eritrean citizens, Adérito Areias replied, 'why do foreigners set up a bakery in the country and Angolans don't?'.

He said that this thought has nothing to do with xenophobia, but Angolans have potential, they just need to take action.

'Many Angolans prefer to rent their permits to foreigners. We must believe and have great self-esteem to say that we are capable,' he concluded.

The Benguela Business Alliance brings together eighteen associations, four of which signed the book of honor Friday.

Its mission is to support the development of the province's socio-economic activities, through its associates, entrepreneurs and collaborators. TC/CRB/DOJ
