Caxito – The revitalization of coffee production in the province of Bengo is based on institutional and financial support from banks, research and flow facilities, the provincial governor, Maria Antónia Nelumba, said today in Caxito.

The governor, who was speaking at the opening of the 1st provincial coffee conference in Bengo, highlighted that these combined factors will give new vigor to the coffee sector in the province.

“If we look at the Central Government's guidelines towards diversifying the economy and sources of foreign exchange revenue, we have a vast highway of opportunities to make a difference, she said.

According to the governor, the bank plays a crucial role in this process and, therefore, asked it to look at the sector differently and act as a “player” in the entire mechanism that aims to take Angolan coffee to new levels.

“Producers are essentially calling for an extension of the payback period for credits granted,” she said.

She highlighted the crucial role of scientific research that allows the application of the most modern techniques for planting seedlings, combating pests and increasing productivity.

As for institutional support, she considered it imperative to create facilities for potential investors to invest in production, having access to abandoned farms, uncultivated land and other incentives. CJ/IF/CF/DOJ
