Lucapa - A photovoltaic plant with capacity to produce 7.72 megawatts of electricity will be installed within 29 months in the municipality of Lucapa, in Lunda Norte province, benefiting over 100,000 inhabitants in the district.

The project, whose launch of the first stone for the start of its installation was carried out Friday by the Secretary of State for Energy, Belsa da Costa, will enable the state to save 4.9 million litres of fuel per year.

The contract, which generated 100 jobs, is budgeted at 19-7 million Euros and will contain 12,0 92 solar panels.

At the time, the Secretary of State for Energy, Belsa da Costa, said that with this project the Angolan government aimed to increase renewable energy to at least 70 of the country's energy balance, which is sustained by the contribution of the Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric power plant, which has a production capacity of 2,172 megawatts.

He added that the adoption of production solutions, using renewable energy, fits into the national climate change strategy, adopted by the country, in the development of a carbon-based model.

He said that the project was a great gain for the energy sector in Angola and that it would impact on the economic, social and environmental development of at least six regions of the country, specifically Benguela, Huambo, Bié, Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte.
