Menongue – Angolan minister of Agriculture António Francisco de Assis Thursday inaugurated Larviculture and Fattening center in Missombo commune, eastern Cuando Cubango province, worth USD 14 million.

With the inauguration of the project, designed to breed fish in large scale, the local population will see improved their dietary pattern.

 

This is the third project in the country, located in the commune of Missombo, 18 kilometers east of the province’s capital, Menongue.

 

The undertaking has ​​eight hectares with 38 metallic reservoirs of 20 meters of diameter each with capacity to accommodate more than 20,000 fish.

 

The first fingerlings were launched between August and December 2019 and, at the moment, weigh between 350 and 500 grams, considered the ideal size for marketing and consumption.

 

With capacity to produce 3,500 alevins (fish larvae), the infrastructure has a fish processing area, a fish processing factory and an ice factory and 16 greenhouses for tilapia reproduction.

 

The minister recalled that the project will boost local development, calling for the local entrepreneurs in the agriculture sector and families to work to guarantee the raw material for the production of feed, especially corn and Soy.
